ORLANDO, Fla. - The No. 26 Arizona women's tennis team put together a strong fight Friday afternoon in Orlando, Florida, but ultimately fell 4-2 to No. 20 UCF in the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament.
Arizona (20-9) came out sharp in doubles play, claiming the opening point behind a pair of convincing wins. Martyna Ostrzygalo and Tanvi Narendran delivered a dominant 6-1 victory on court three, setting the tone before Maria Garcia and Josie Usereau secured the point with a 6-3 win on court two.
The Wildcats continued to compete throughout singles, highlighted by Garcia's impressive straight-set victory on court five. The junior controlled the match from the start, earning a 6-4, 6-2 win to give Arizona its second point.
Several other courts featured tightly contested battles. Ostrzygalo pushed No. 115 Jantje Tilbuerger to three sets on court one, while Narendran was in the midst of a comeback on court four, leading in the third set when play was halted.
UCF ultimately claimed the match with wins on courts two, three, and six before clinching on court one in a three-set battle.
Despite the result, Arizona showcased great depth and resilience against a top-20 opponent and will now turn its attention to the NCAA Tournament selection.
