SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- Arizona women's tennis closed a three-match weekend at UC Santa Barbara with a pair of victories, finishing 2–1 over the stretch against UC Santa Barbara, No. 22 Texas Tech and Florida State.
The Wildcats opened the weekend Friday with a narrow 4-3 setback to No. 22 Texas Tech at the Arnhold Tennis Center. Arizona dropped the doubles point but responded with four singles wins, including straight-set victories from Josie Usereau and Ciara Moore. Danielle Tuhten earned a point at No. 4 singles after her opponent retired early in the second set, keeping Arizona within striking distance before Texas Tech clinched the match in a third-set tiebreak at the top spot.
Arizona bounced back Saturday morning with a 4-1 win over UC Santa Barbara. After securing the doubles point with wins on courts one and two, the Wildcats clinched the match behind singles victories from Ciara Moore, Maria Garcia and Tanvi Narendran. Moore earned a straight-set decision at No. 3 singles, while Garcia and Narendran followed with composed performances in the middle of the lineup to seal the result.
The weekend concluded with another 4-1 win Saturday afternoon as Arizona defeated Florida State. Despite dropping the doubles point, the Wildcats dominated singles play, winning four straight courts to secure the match. Martyna Ostrzygalo delivered a ranked win at the top spot, outlasting No. 102 Eva Shaw in three sets. Usereau and Moore posted efficient straight-set victories, and Tanvi Narendran clinched at No. 5 singles to complete the comeback.
Arizona will return to Tucson for its next matches, hosting the Red and Blue Invite on Feb. 20-21.
