Mihalakis, Wildcats Walk Off Cowboys in Rubber Match

TUCSON, Ariz. — Designated hitter Maddox Mihalakis swatted his second game-winning hit of the weekend, as his RBI single in the bottom of the ninth delivered a 5-4 walk-off win for the Arizona Wildcats (25-10, 10-5) over the Oklahoma State Cowboys (16-17, 5-8).

With the win, Arizona secured their second straight Big 12 Conference series win and reached the midpoint in league play with a 10-5 record.

Arizona rallied from a three-run deficit to ultimately snag the win. Right fielder Andrew Cain delivered the game-tying hit, a single up the middle, in the bottom of the eighth, before Tommy Splaine put the Wildcats on top with a sac fly. Oklahoma State tied the game in the top of the ninth inning on a solo home run, setting up Mihalakis' heroics.

Center fielder Aaron Walton kickstarted the ninth inning rally by reaching base on an error and moved to second on a wild pitch. Shortstop Mason White was intentionally walked before a double play moved Walton to third, laying the groundwork for the Mihalakis game-winner.

Starting pitcher Smith Bailey did not factor into the decision after tossing five innings of three-run ball. The freshman right-hander allowed only six hits, five of which were singles, and struck out five.

Fellow right-hander Garrett Hicks finished the game for Arizona and allowed just one run on three hits over four innings of work. Hicks (4-0) struck out three and earned his fourth win of the season.
