TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (13-4, 1-0) kicked off their tenure in the Big 12 Conference with an 8-3 win over the Cincinnati Bearcats (11-7, 0-1) on Friday night at Hi Corbett Field.
The Wildcats rallied for all eight of their runs in the sixth inning; after leading off the inning with a ground out, second baseman
Garen Caulfield delivered the highlight of the rally with a grand slam to left field to make the score 8-3.Â
First baseman
Tommy Splaine got the Wildcats on the board with an RBI single and Arizona tied things up with an infield single from right fielder
Brendan Summerhill on which two runs scored, one on the hit and one on an error.
Arizona's bullpen was spectacular, with right-hander
Casey Hintz and
Garrett Hicks combining to contribute 5.1 scoreless, two-hit innings. Hintz (4-0) earned the win and Hicks picked up his first save of the season.
Starting pitcher
Collin McKinney did not factor into the decision after allowing three runs (one earned) over 3.2 innings. He struck out four Cincinnati batters.Â
