A Picture Perfect Finish for GymCats' Regular Season

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Arizona women's gymnastics team conculded thier regular season competition, Fri., March 11 in McKale. Seniors Kristin Klarenbach, Danielle Buchanan, Jessie Sisler, Shelby Edwards and Lexi Mills were introduced for the last time in their home arena, and were big contributers to the team's 196.85-195.40 win over Brigham Young University. 

Starting on the vault, freshman Lauryn Mattson, sophomore Maddy Cindric, Edwards and Sisler tied for first place after all receiving scores of 9.85. Mattson's score was a career high, and for Sisler, a season high. Junior Gabrielle Laub followed behind with a 9.775. Fellow junior, Selynna Felix-Terrazas rounded out the vault scores with a 9.70. The Cats finished with a season high vault score of 49.175.

The Wildcats' momentum continued onto the uneven bars when sophomore Kennady Schneider started the rotation off with an #ARIZONASTICK and a 9.75. Mills and Laub earned first place on the event with 9.875's, a new career high for Mills. Felix-Terrazas posted a score of 9.80, as did freshman Dani Spencer who stuck her dismount. Sophomore  Victoria Ortiz finished with a 9.70. 

Mills was on fire Friday night as she performed a nearly flawless beam routine. She earned a season best 9.875. Sisler tied her teammate with another 9.875 later in the lineup, earning them both first place spots on the podium. Junior Krysten Howard and Cindric tied for third place with a pair of 9.85's. Freshman Skyler Sheppard and Edwards posted scores of 9.80 and 9.70, respectively. 

A highlight of the night was senior Danielle Buchanan's first performance in McKale this season when she performed an exhibition routine on beam and finished with an #ARIZONASTICK. 

The final rotation did not disappoint as the GymCats recorded two 9.90's back-to-back from Sisler and Howard. Howard's score became a new career best. In third place was Schneider with a 9.875. Felix-Terrazas received a 9.85. Sheppard finished out the night with a 9.50. 

Arizona's 196.85 became a new season best for the team, and they captured all four event titles. Fans saw ten #ARIZONASTICK's from Mattson, Sisler, Edwards, Schneider, Spencer, Laub, Lexi, Howard, Cindric and Buchanan. 

Post-season competition begins for the Gymcats next week as the team heads to Seattle, Wash., for the Pac-12 Championship on March 19. The conference championship will be divided into two sessions. The fifth thru eighth seeded teams will compete in the first session at 1 p.m. MST, and the first thru fourth seeded teams will compete shortly after at 6 p.m. MST.
