2016 (Junior Year): Selynna competed in all 12 meets of the season. On January 8th she scored a 9.800 on floor. Later in the season she tied her career high on floor after scoring a 9.850 against UCLA on January 23rd. Against Utah on February 2st, she earned a season high of 9.850 on floor, and while competing against Stanford on February 13th she tied her season high of 9.770 on vault and 9.850 on floor. At the Pac-12 Championships in 2016, she tied her season high on bars with a 9.850.
2015 (Sophomore Year): In the season opener against Alabama on January 9th, Selynna earned a 9.750 on vault. On January 31st, she earned her season high on floor against Utah with a 9.825. Against in-state rivals ASU, she earned her season high on the uneven bars with a 9.875. As a sophomore at the Pac-12 Championships, she scored a 9.725 on vault, 9.825 on bars and 9.800 on floor. At the Columbus Regionals in 2015, she posted a 9.700 on vault, 9.800 on bars and 9.800 on floor.
2014 (Freshman Year): As a freshman at the University of Arizona, Selynna earned the Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the week honor. She competed on bars in almost every meet of the season. On January 19th in a meet against Stanford, Selynna set a career high of 9.750 on vault. On February 15th, she earned her first career high on bars against Oklahoma with a big 9.800. While competing against UCLA on March 1st, she broke her career high again on bars with a 9.900. Early in the season, she set a career high of 9.850 on floor two different times, against Washington on February 1st and against Utah on February 15th. Selynna finished the season strong with a 9.850 on bars in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional Championships.
Club/High School: Selynna attended Flowing Wells High School in Tucson, Arizona. In 2009 Selynna was the level 8 regional champion, and in 2010 she became the level 9 Western Champion, placing first in the All-Around and seventh on uneven bars. In 2011 Selynna was the All-Around Champion at the National Judges’ Cup, and in high school Selynna became a three-time Junior Olympic National Qualifier.
Personal: Selynna was born to be a Wildcat. She was born in Aguaprieta, Mexico, but shortly moved to Tucson. She grew up with her father, Jose, and mother, Dolores, and her three siblings. A senior at Arizona, Selynna is majoring in Literacy, Learning, and Leadership, and hopes to have a career working with children who have special needs. If Selynna isn’t in the gym, she loves to draw and be with her family. A fun fact about her is that she has a personal record of completing 96 pushups at one time!
