Arizona Hits 24 for 24 Against Stanford

TUCSON, ARIZ. – The Arizona GymCats returned home to McKale after two weeks on the road, Sat. Feb. 13. In front of a crowd of nearly 3,000, the team hit 24 of 24 routines falling just short of a win against the Stanford Cardinal, 196.65-196.15.

“I'm so proud of the team tonight,” said Arizona head coach Tabitha Yim. “To compete on Monday and then following up with a Saturday meet tonight isn't easy. They showed a lot of resiliency, grit and heart; they came out together and they achieved the goals we set as a team. I'm very proud of them because we are building, and that's exactly we want to do. The crowd was absolutely amazing tonight, they were into it, they were energetic and it really lifted our girls up. It was fun to be back at home and I truly feel like we have the most amazing community here in Tucson.”

The Wildcats started the night off by hitting the vault. The team was led by sophomore Maddy Cindric who stuck her way to a season high 9.85. Behind her was senior Shelby Edwards who also stuck her pass and earned a 9.825; freshman Lauryn Mattson too, earned a 9.825. Senior Jessie Sisler and junior Gabrielle Laub posted a pair of 9.775's. Junior Selynna Felix-Terrazas rounded out the lineup with a 9.75.

On the uneven bars Felix-Terrazas was Arizona's scoring leader after she received a 9.825. Senior Lexi Mills finished just behind her teammate with a 9.80. Three 9.775's were earned by freshman Dani Spencer, sophomore Victoria Ortiz and Laub. Junior Krysten Howard ended her routine with an #ARIZONASTICK and received a 9.75.

In the third rotation, Arizona showed their grit on their faces and in their routines. Three 9.85's were earned by Sisler, Edwards and Howard. Cindric stuck yet another routine and received a 9.80. Freshman Skyler Sheppard and Mills completed the lineup and earned scores of 9.775 and 9.725, respectively.

In the final rotation, Sisler performed a nearly flawless routine to receive a 9.90. With her Latin flair floor routine, Felix-Terrazas received a 9.85. Edwards and freshman Lauryn Mattson both posted 9.775's. Sophomores Kennady Schneider and Cindric received scores of 9.725 and 9.70, respectively.

Looking ahead, Arizona gets a long week to prepare for their next meet against in-state rivals, Arizona State. The Wildcats will face the Sun Devils in Tempe on Monday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. MST. The meet will be aired live on the Pac-12 Network. The team will return home once again on Saturday, Feb. 27 to face the Washington Huskies in the annual Think Pink Meet. The meet will be at 4 p.m. MST, with doors opening at 3 p.m.
