TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 15 Arizona took down Drake in both games of the doubleheader to open the Bear Down Fiesta.
Game 1 | No. 15 Arizona 7, Drake 6
The Cats walked off the Bulldogs in the first game of the doubleheader behind a two-run home run from
Sydney Stewart.
Arizona tallied 11 hits and
Regan Shockey went 4-for-4 with two RBI. Stewart had three hits, including two home runs, and three RBI to lead the Cats to the victory.
Drake struck first with a solo home run in the top of the first inning and Arizona answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie it.
The Bulldogs hit a two-run home run in the second to take a 3-1 lead.
In the bottom of the third,
Grace Jenkins had a sacrifice fly in the third to bring the Cats within one.
Drake plated three in the fifth to extend their lead on a sac fly, an RBI single, and an RBI double.
Arizona started its comeback in the sixth inning with three runs on a solo homer from Stewart and a two-run home run from
Emma Kavanagh. Stewart walked off Drake in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run shot.
Jalen Adams picked up the win to improve to 3-1 after pitching three innings in relief and limiting Drake to one run on three hits.
Game 2 | No. 15 Arizona 7, Drake 1
Arizona took down Drake 7-1 in the second game of the day.
Sereniti Trice led the Cats with three hits and two RBI and Shockey followed with a pair of hits. Jenkins hit a three-run home run – her second homer of the season.
The Cats scored two in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. Trice drove in the first run with a triple and Stewart hit a sac fly to score the second run of the inning.
In the third, Jenkins hit her three-run shot to center field to extend Arizona's lead to 5-0.
Arizona added two more runs in the fourth on an RBI groundout from
Addison Duke and an RBI double from Trice.
Drake scored one run in the fifth on a single and an error.
In the circle, Adams earned her second win of the day to improve to 4-1 on the season. She tossed the first four innings, holding Drake scoreless on three hits.
Sarah Wright pitched the final three innings and allowed one run on four hits.
