TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 15 Arizona lost to Coastal Carolina, 6-2, on the second day of the Bear Down Fiesta.
The Wildcats only totaled four hits while the Chanticleers had 13 hits.
Grace Jenkins and
Sina Talataina drove in the pair of runs for Arizona.
After two scoreless innings, Coastal plated five runs in the third inning to take the lead. The Chants used a two-run double, a throwing error, an RBI single, and an RBI double to score five on the Cats.
Arizona scored two in the bottom of the fifth to cut into Coastal's lead. Jenkins singled to right field to bring home the first run and Talataina had an RBI groundout to give the Cats their second run of the inning.
In the sixth, Coastal had an RBI single to score their sixth run and take a 6-2 lead in the game. The Wildcats had two runners on in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't complete the comeback.
Jalen Adams (4-2) picked up the loss in the circle after pitching the first 2.2 innings and allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out two Chants.
Jenae Berry relieved Adams and finished the final 4.1 innings, allowing one run on six hits.
