PROVO, Utah — One big inning sank the Arizona Wildcats (26-11, 10-6) in a 12-5 loss to the BYU Cougars (19-16, 6-10) on Thursday night at Miller Park.
After Arizona rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead, the Cougars responded with an eight-run bottom half to pull away and create the final margin.
Starting pitcher
Collin McKinney turned in a solid outing for the Wildcats, going six innings for the second time this year and allowing just four runs on five hits. The tall right-hander struck out nine but did not factor into the decision.
Freshman reliever
Carson Johnson made his seventh appearance of the year and posted a scoreless inning, lowering his ERA to a miniscule 1.23.
Center fielder
Aaron Walton collected a pair of doubles in his first two at-bats, giving him a team-best 14 two-baggers on the year.
