FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — The Wildcats ended the final day of Big 12 competition with multiple podium finishes, a new school record and the runner-up spot on both the men's and women's sides. Arizona's men finished with 1301 points, and the women ended the meet with 1240.
Freshman Colin Agor was honored as the Freshman Diver of the Meet after his performance throughout the week, during which he made A finals for the 3m event and earned a spot in the consolation finals in the 1m and platform diving events. Agor earned 9th in the men's 1m (328.85), 5th in the 3m (347.00) and 12th on platform (284.60), in addition to his role in earning Arizona the silver in the en's team diving event.
The final day of the meet began with multiple Cats punching their ticket to championship finals after stellar performances in the preliminary rounds. The women's 200 back had a similar story as yesterday's 100 back, with freshman Kayman Neal and junior Paige Armstrong securing places in the A final. Neal took home bronze in the event with her 1:53.85 finish (a personal and Arizona season-best, as well as an NCAA B Cut). Armstrong also put up a B Cut time in her sixth-place finish (1:55.80). Both Cats had an incredible showing at Big 12's, making it to the A finals of every event they competed in.
On the men's side, sophomore Will Meyers earned the second-best time in the preliminary round of the 200 back, going 1:41.33. Ryan Hardy, who earned the bronze in the 100 back, advanced to the consolation finals in the 200 back. In the 200 back final, Meyers posted a 1:40.81, a personal best and the fifth-best time in program history.
The Cats were well-represented in the 100 free finals, with four of eight of the women's A finals being taken by Arizona athletes, and three of the eight being taken on the men's side. Julia Wozniak earned Arizona's first individual gold in the 100 free finals with an impressive 48.56; this was a personal best for Wozniak, in addition to being an Arizona season best and a NCAA B Cut. Following right behind Wozniak and earning the silver was Riley Botton, whose 48.77 was also an NCAA B Cut and PB. Senior captain Alyssa Schwengel also secured a personal best with her 49.23.
For the Wildcat men, Tomas Lukminas took home the bronze with a 41.97. In the preliminary round, Lukminas broke Arizona's school record with his 41.56 (the previous 42.00 record was held by junior Ralph Daleiden). Daleiden and Hunter Ingram placed fifth and eight, respectively, with solid NCAA B Cut times (42.32 and 42.80).
On the distance side, all three Arizona swimmers competing in the 1650 free earned a top-8 podium finish and an NCAA B Cut time. Mason Nyboer took the No. 5 spot in the men's race with an Arizona season-best 15:12.08. For the women, Malia Rausch earned the bronze with her 16:36.77, followed closely by Ava Sutphin, who finished eighth (16:43.03).
Junior Tavner Wisdom had another great day, taking the No. 3 spot in the men's 200 breaststroke with a personal and Arizona season best time of 1:53.95. The night before, Wisdom also took home the bronze in the men's 100 BR. On the women's side, junior Eleni Gewalt also achieved a personal best, Arizona season-best and NCAA B Cut time with her sixth-place finish, clocking in at 2:11.19.
Closing out the night, Arizona's men's and women's 400 free relay teams both took home silver. The women's team of Duchsherer, Wozniak, Botton and Schwengel finished with a 3:15.62. On the men's side, Arizona's Daleiden, Ingram, Nabor and Luck took the No. 2 spot with a 2:49.41.
