FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — The Wildcats ended night three of the Big 12 Championships with a strong showing in multiple finals events and an NCAA A Cut in the men's 400 medley relay to close out the night.Â
Finals began with another commendable diving performance from Gage DuBois. DuBois, who already received silver last night in the 3m event, took home sixth in the 3m diving competition today (305.80).
Men's diving was followed by the 100 fly, in which the Cats had eleven athletes advance to finals and three earn a place in the championship final. Haakon Naughton earned the bronze with a personal best 44.94 that puts him in the top 20 in the country. Hunter Ingram also posted an impressive 45.96 in the A final. Maryam Sheikhalizadehkhangh, the only Wildcat woman in the event's A final, secured an eighth-place finish with a 53.47, a personal and Arizona season-best.Â
Also in the 100 fly, MJ Neilson nabbed a personal best in the C final of the event (54.23), and Jack Donovan finished the men's C final with a season-best 47.77.Â
In the 400 IM, junior Bryan Wong managed to break his own personal best/Arizona's season best in the prelims and then again in the finals, finishing the C final with a 3:51.00.
In the 200 free, freshman Kayman Neal took home the silver after an impressive 1:45.85, a personal best and Arizona season-best. On the men's side of the 200 free, Tomas Lukminas secured the bronze, finishing with a 1:32.44. Ralph Daleiden followed closely, ending in fourth (1:33.01). Freshman Lars Kuljus closed out the top spots in the event for the Cats, with a seventh-place finish and a time of 1:34.76. Daleiden's meet record of 1:31.48, set in Tuesday's 800 free relay, remains intact despite being threatened by ASU's Patrick Sammon's 1:31.57.
On the women's diving side, Brooke Earley and Zara Ayazi made yet another podium appearance. Earley earned third place with a 345.85 finish, and Ayazi followed in fifth by scoring 298.00.
To close out the night, the Cats took silver in both the men's and women's 400 medley relays, with the men's squad (Ryan Hardy, Daniel Young, Naughton, Lukminas) securing an NCAA A cut time as well (3:03.68). This automatic qualifier puts the Cats in the top 20 in the country and within striking distance of Arizona's all-time record (3:02.09).
