Arizona Takes Home Two Golds, Multiple Podium Finishes on Day 4 of Big 12 Championship

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Arizona finished the penultimate day of Big 12 competition with many greta performances, highlighted by the two first-place finishes for the men's and women's 200 free relays to close out the night.

Arizona's women set a new season record and posted the 11th-best time in the country with their 1:26.92 gold medal finish. The Cats had already held an A cut for the event, but shaved down their past time by nearly a second.

On the men's side, the Cats initial silver placement, with an impressive 1:17.28, transformed into a gold after ASU's team was disqualified. This was a season-best time for the men as well.

The Cats began the day with six athletes advancing to the finals in the 200 fly, including Haakon Naughton and Joel Nace, who put up top times that guaranteed them a place in the championship final. Naughton took home silver in the event, finishing with a 1:40.67, and Nace secured the bronze with a personal best (1:42.76).

In the 100 breaststroke, junior Eleni Gewalt put up a personal best and the third best time in program history during the preliminary rounds (59.16), securing her place in the A final. Eleni dropped this time again in the final, earning the No. 4 spot on the podium with a 59.00 finish.

On the men's prelims side, Tavner Wisdom (52.59) and Daniel Young (53.17) also punched their tickets to the A final. Both swimmers dropped shaved milliseconds off these times in the final; Wisdom secured the bronze and an Arizona season-best with his 52.33, and Young took the seventh spot on the podium with a 53.00.

In the 100 back, Paige Armstrong secured the top seed in the A final with a personal best and Arizona season-best 52.44. Freshman Kayman Neal, who last night earned the silver in the 200 free, followed closely behind, her 53.59 finish guaranteeing her a spot in the championship final as well. Armstrong took home the bronze in the final with a 52.95. Neal landed at No. 7 on the finals podium with her 53.41.

On the men's side, junior Ryan Hardy earned the bronze after swimming a personal-best 45.64. Hardy now holds Arizona's fourth-best time for the event. Sophomore Will Meyers was not far behind, clocking in at No. 5 with a 46.14.

In the men's platform diving event, Gage DuBois earned the No. 6 spot on the podium with a 326.60. Notably, DuBois made the A finals for every men's diving competition event.
