HOUSTON, Texas — A five-run rally in the seventh inning on Wednesday night lifted the Arizona Wildcats (5-3) to their fifth straight victory, an 11-8 decision over the Rice Owls (2-5) at Reckling Park.
Trailing 7-5, the Wildcats loaded the bases in the top of the seventh for catcher
Adonys Guzman, who had already blasted a two-run home run earlier in the game. This time, the Arizona backstop laced a three-run double into right center that cleared the bases and put the Cats on top 8-7. Right fielder
Brendan Summerhill followed later in the inning with a two-run double that pushed the Wildcats into double digits and ultimately secured the win.
After allowing runs in four of the first six innings, Arizona right-hander
Garrett Hicks entered and tossed two scoreless innings to earn the win and improve to 2-0 on the year. Hicks allowed just one hit and struck out three.
Southpaw
Jack Berg, making his first start for the Wildcats, worked a scoreless first inning with a pair of strikeouts; he did not factor into the decision.
