TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (3-3) secured a series win over the San Diego Toreros (0-6) with a 5-4 walk-off win on Saturday afternoon. The game-winning hit was delivered by center fielder
Aaron Walton.
Starting pitcher
Owen Kramkowski delivered a strong outing for the Wildcats, going five innings and holding the Toreros to just one run on four hits. Following a first inning run, the sophomore worked four scoreless frames. He issued zero walks and struck out three but did not factor into the decision.
Following a three-run San Diego rally in the top of the ninth, right-hander
Garrett Hicks (1-0) came in to stamp out the fire and in doing so earned the win. Fellow righties
Tony Pluta (2.0 IP) and
Hunter Alberini (1.0 IP) also delivered scoreless relief outings for Arizona.
Third baseman
Mathis Meurant put together his second strong performance of the weekend. The Frenchman blasted his first career home run in fifth inning, scored from first base on a double in the seventh inning, and started the Wildcats rally in the bottom of the ninth before going on to score the winning run.
Meurant opened the bottom of the ninth with a single to left, advanced to third on a single by right fielder
Brendan Summerhill, and came in to score on Walton's game-winning single over the San Diego center fielder's head.
