BERKELEY, Calif. – No. 25 Arizona (31-17, 6-13 Pac-12) dropped game one to California (27-23, 7-12 Pac-12). The Golden Bears beat the Cars 7-1.
Allie Skaggs hit her 20th home run of the season and
Sharlize Palacios went 2-for-3. Arizona had chances to score throughout the game but left six runners on base.
Janelle Meoño robbed Cal of a home run in the first inning. It was a pitcher's duel through two-and-a-half innings until the Golden Bears scored four runs in the third inning. An RBI single and a three-run home run put Cal up 4-0 on the Cats.
Cal scored one in the fourth on an RBI single and two more in the fifth.
Skaggs hit a solo home run – her 20th homer of the season – in the sixth to make it a 7-1 game. Sona Halajian retired six of the next seven Wildcats to secure the win for Cal.
Hanah Bowen (10-9) got the loss in the circle, striking out only three Bears.
