PHOENIX, Ariz. — Starting pitcher
Owen Kramkowski delivered a gem for the Arizona Wildcats (22-8, 8-3) as they toppled the No. 24 Arizona State Sun Devils (20-11, 7-4) on a final score of 5-3 on Saturday night, securing a series win.
Kramkowski (4-3) nearly worked a complete game, turning in 8.2 innings of work and limiting the hosts to three runs on nine hits; the big right-hander struck out five and issued just one walk on 104 pitches.Â
Tony Pluta entered in the ninth with two outs and runners on first and second and struck out ASU's Josaiah Cromwick for the final out, picking up his team-leading fifth save of the year.
Arizona's offense was kick-started early on a leadoff home run from second baseman
Garen Caulfield, who sent the third pitch of the game over the wall in left center. Left fielder
Andrew Cain also smacked a home run, while shortstop
Mason White checked in with a two-run triple in the sixth inning.
Saturday's win marked the Wildcats first road series win over the Sun Devils since 2021.
