TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (31-13) returned to their winning ways at home with a 6-2 victory over the New Mexico State Aggies (22-23) on Tuesday night at Hi Corbett Field.
Arizona used eight pitchers, seven of which did not allow an earned run, and limited the dangerous Aggies offense to just two runs in the midweek win. Right-hander
Michael Hilker Jr. (2-1) earned the win after posting two innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts. Fellow righty
Tony Pluta entered in the ninth inning with the bases loaded and one out and neutralized the threat to earn his Big 12 leading 10th save of the year.
Starting pitcher
Bryce McKnight, making his first collegiate start, posted two innings of work and allowed just one unearned run on two hits while striking out a pair.
Shortstop
Mathis Meurant led the Wildcats offensive efforts with a 2-for-4 performance that was highlighted by a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth.
