TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Wildcats (16-4) stymied a red-hot Kansas Jayhawks (17-4) offense for a 5-0 shutout victory on Tuesday night at Hi Corbett Field.
The Wildcats used six pitchers to limit the Jayhawks to just four hits, all singles, while striking out 13. Only three times did Kansas manage to move baserunners into scoring position.
Starting pitcher
Raul Garayzar worked four stellar innings for the Cats; he held Kansas to just two singles and struck out five.
Five Wildcat relievers inherited the shutout that Garayzar began and combined to allow just two hits in five innings while striking out eight. Right-hander
Matthew Martinez (1-0) earned his first win of the year after striking out the side in the seventh inning.
Coming into Tuesday's game the Jayhawks had averaged over 10 runs per game, making the Arizona pitching staff's shutout effort all the more impressive. The Wildcats handed Kansas their first blanking since April 2024.
