Cats Drop Four-Set Match to No. 6 Sun Devils

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona lost to No. 6 Arizona State in four sets (18-25, 25-22, 16-25, 16-25) on Saturday night in McKale Center. The Wildcats dropped to 11-8 (5-4 Big 12) following the match.

Arizona served four aces in the match but ASU recorded 9.5 blocks to hold the Cats to a .152 hitting percentage. Jordan Wilson tallied 19 kills while Brenna Ginder led the defense with 16 digs but it wasn't enough to overcome ASU's .387 team hitting percentage.
 
Arizona State won the first set, 25-18. Arizona fell to a 0-4 deficit to start the set and came back to take the lead on a 6-0 run but the Sun Devils regained the lead at 11-10. Wilson recorded seven kills and hit .429 to lead the Cats offensively. Carlie Cisneros and Journey Tucker combined for a block but ASU hit .429 to win the opening set.
 
The Wildcats evened the match with a 25-22 win in the second set. Arizona served three aces and out-hit ASU to tie the match at 1-1. Wilson tallied six kills and Renee Jones followed with four kills and a .667 clip. Cisneros added three kills for the Cats. Adrianna Bridges and Avery Scoggins recorded a block and the Wildcats recorded 16 digs to hold the Sun Devils to a .194 hitting percentage.  
 
The Sun Devils won the third set, 25-16, to take a 2-1 lead in the match. After keeping the set close to start, ASU used a 3-0 run halfway through to extend their lead. Wilson had three kills while Bridges and Tucker recorded two kills each but ASU had five blocks to hold the Cats to a .000 hitting percentage in the set.
 
The Cats dropped the fourth set, 16-25. Arizona fell behind early and ASU hit .529 to win the set and the match. Cisneros and Wilson had three kills each while Tucker and Vanek recorded two kills but it wasn't enough to slow down ASU's offense in the fourth set.

Arizona will travel to Texas Tech on Wednesday, October 29 before returning home to host TCU on Friday, October 31.
