TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 19 Wildcats run-ruled the Sun Devils, 13-3, in five innings on Saturday to clinch the series victory.
Arizona scored 13 runs on 10 hits and three Wildcats –
Kaiah Altmeyer,
Emily Schepp, and
Carlie Scupin – each had two hits. Altmeyer and
Dakota Kennedy both hit home runs. Scupin led the team with four RBI and Altmeyer drove in three runs.
Kennedy gave the Cats the early lead with a solo home run – her seventh of the season – to lead off the game.
Arizona State tied the game in the top of the second with a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the inning, Altmeyer gave Arizona the lead with a two-run home run – her fourth of the season and second in as many at-bats.
The Wildcats exploded for six runs in the third to take a 9-1 lead over the Sun Devils.
Tayler Biehl opened the scoring with a one-run single and Altmeyer followed with a two-RBI single through the left side. With the bases loaded, Scupin drove in two runs with a single and
Allie Skaggs rounded out the inning with a two-run double.
ASU got two runs back on a single and a defensive miscue from Arizona in the top of the fourth.
Arizona scored four more runs in the fourth for a 13-3 lead. Kennedy drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the Wildcats' first run of the inning. Scupin hit her second two-RBI single of the game and
Regan Shockey scored Arizona's 13th run of the game on a wild pitch.
In the circle,
Miranda Stoddard earned her fifth win of the season to improve to 5-8. She went 4.0 innings, striking out two and giving up two earned runs on four hits.
Ali Blanchard entered in relief in the fifth, striking out one of the four batters she faced to close out the game.
