TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 19 Wildcats lost the first game of the series, 12-7, to No. 11 Washington in a back-and-forth game. Arizona scored seven runs on 11 hits with seven RBI.
Carlie Scupin and
Paige Dimler each had home runs – with Scupin's being her 13th homer of the season. Scupin had two RBI and Dimler went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Blaise Biringer went 3-for-3, including her sixth double of the season.
The Cats struck first on an RBI single from
Allie Skaggs in the third inning, but Washington evened it up in the fourth with a solo home run. Arizona scored two in the bottom of the fourth to regain the lead on Dimler's home run.
In the fifth inning, Washington scored four runs and the Wildcats answered back with four runs of their own. The Huskies took the lead on a two-RBI home run from Olivia Johnson and tacked on another run in the fifth to go up 5-3. Scupin tied the game with a two-RBI home run and Arizona added two more runs on a pair of RBI singles from Biringer and Dimler.
The Huskies scored seven runs in the sixth inning to take the lead and retired the final six Arizona batters to secure the win.
Devyn Netz (8-5) was the losing pitcher after giving up the go-ahead run for Washington in the sixth.
