Cats Take Down UNLV, Marist on Day Two

TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 8 Arizona picked up two wins against UNLV (17-5) and Marist (9-10) on the second day of the Bear Down Fiesta to improve to 18-4. Five Wildcats homered across the two wins.
 
Game 1 – Arizona 7, UNLV 2
Arizona won the first game of the day over UNLV, scoring seven runs on eight hits, with seven RBI.  
 
Carlie Scupin hit her ninth home run of the season and went 2-for-2. Giulia Koutsoyanopulos, who went 3-for-3, hit her first career home run and Bailey Thompson went 2-for-3 and hit her first home run as a Wildcat.
 
The Wildcats started the game strong, scoring four runs in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. Scupin hit a solo home run to put the Cats on the board. Thompson then hit a three-RBI homer to left field.  
 
UNLV scored two runs in the third inning to shorten Arizona's lead to 4-2.
 
Scupin hit a sacrifice fly to score Koutsoyanopulos in the fifth inning to put the Cats up 5-2. Koutsoyanopulos then hit a two-RBI home run – her first career home run – in the sixth inning to give Arizona the 7-2 lead.
 
Hanah Bowen picked up the win to improve to 5-2. She struck out a career high nine batters and kept the Rebels to only two runs on four hits.
 
Game 2 – Arizona 11, Marist 0
The Wildcats picked up an 11-0 mercy rule victory over Marist to close out the day.
 
Arizona scored 11 runs on 15 hits, with 11 RBI. Amber Toven and Scupin each went 3-for-3 and Toven drove in a career best five to lead the team.
 
Scupin and Allie Skaggs each hit home runs. Toven hit her first career home run in the second inning and homered again in her next at-bat – a three-RBI shot.
 
Scupin put the Arizona on the board with an RBI single in the first inning. Toven hit her first home run of the game in the second inning to put the Cats up 2-0.
 
Arizona opened up the game in the third inning, scoring five runs on three homers. Skaggs and Scupin hit back-to-back home runs to lead off the inning and Toven hit her second of the game.
 
The Wildcats added four more in the fourth on a pair of doubles and a single to secure the 11-0 lead.
 
Devyn Netz earned the win to improve to 8-1. She struck out three batters and allowed no runs on two hits. Jessie Fonts pitched in relief for Netz and struck out three batters in the fifth inning.
