TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 8 Arizona improved to 16-4 with a 5-1 win over Yale (2-5) on the opening day of the Bear Down Fiesta.
Allie Skaggs hit her seventh home run of the season – a three-RBI shot – and three Wildcats had two or more hits.
Jasmine Perezchica went 3-for-4 to extend her hitting streak to 13 games to lead the team.
Giulia Koutsoyanopulos went 2-for-3 and Skaggs went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Yale struck first with a solo homer in the first inning, but the Cats scored five unanswered runs to push Arizona past the Bulldogs. With Perezchica and Skaggs in scoring position,
Carlie Scupin hit a two-RBI single to give Arizona a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning.
In the sixth, Skaggs hit a three-RBI home run to centerfield to secure the 5-1 win for Arizona.
Following the first-inning home run,
Devyn Netz (7-0) retired 14-straight Bulldogs with a career-high eight strikeouts to keep Yale scoreless the rest of the game.
