TUCSON, Ariz. -- No. 4 UCLA defeated No. 12 Arizona 10-3 on Sunday to sweep the three-game series.
Ashleigh Hughes and
Ivy Davis hit home runs for the Wildcats (27-12, 6-9 Pac-12), but it would be the only offense the Cats could muster against the Bruins (37-3, 12-3 Pac-12). Davis' first-career homer, a two-run shot in the second inning, tied the game at 3, but UCLA scored the final seven runs in the game to win the game.
Taylor McQuillin (18-8) suffered the loss for Arizona. She gave up six runs, five earned, on five hits over two innings.
Alyssa Denham pitched 4.1 innings of relief and allowed four runs on five hits.
Gina Snyder entered to get the final two outs of the game.
Rachel Garcia earned the victory to improve to 13-1 on the year. She pitched 5.1 innings of scoreless relief, replacing starter Selina Ta'amilo, who gave up three runs in 1.2 innings.
UCLA took a 3-0 lead four batters into the game on Garcia's third home run of the series.
Ashleigh Hughes led off the bottom of the first with a home run on Ta'amilo's first pitch of the game. The fourth home run of the season for Hughes cut UCLA's lead to 3-1.
An inning later, Davis tied the game with her first career homer, a two-run shot to left.
UCLA plated three runs on three hits in the third to chase McQuillin in favor of Denham. The sophomore inherited a bases-loaded, no-one-out situation and got out it to limit UCLA to just the three runs.
Arizona loaded the bases with no one out in the bottom half, but could not score.
The Bruins hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth and a solo homer in the sixth to take an 8-3 lead before tacking on two more in the seventh.
