Late Goal Gives Arizona the Edge on Grand Canyon

PHOENIX – The University of Arizona women's soccer team defeated Grand Canyon on Saturday evening by a score of 1-0. Zoe Barrie found the back of the net in the 84th minute to give Arizona the advantage. The Wildcats are now 1-0-0 in their spring season of play.

80' – GCU's Ashley Hilfer was ejected from the match, but then awarded a yellow card instead. She was allowed to re-enter the match.

84' – Zoe Barrie knocked in a loose ball inside the 6-yd. box to give Arizona a 1-0 lead.

Minute-by-minute Recap

6' – Gabi Stoian took a shot from about 30 yards out, but GK Blakely Fraasch got her gloves to it.

8' – A free kick from Stoian skipped off the head of Kelcey Cavarra and went out of play in the GCU box.

11' – Corner kick for the Lopes went safely out of play behind the goal.

14' – Lainey Burdett got her first touch of the game, scooping up an errant pass from GCU.

17' – Stoian drew a foul in good free kick position outside the 18-yd. mark, but her chip over the wall was within reach of Fraasch.

23' – GCU took a free kick from outside Arizona's box, but Hailey Mazzola headed away the cross.

29' – Charlotte Brascia ripped a shot from 25 yards towards the bottom left corner of the frame, but Fraasch was there to make the save.

34' – Stoian took a left-footed crack from the top of the box, but it fell to the center of the goal and Fraasch got to it.

64' – Stoian played a well-placed corner kick but Fraasch was able to get to it.

68' – Reinhardt had to go full stretch to keep out a shot from GCU's Milla Bennedetti.

72' – Samantha Falasco showed her speed as she chased down a through ball to keep the game level.

79' – Morgan McGarry took a volley from the 18-yd. mark that just glanced off the top of the crossbar.

80' – GCU's Ashley Hilfer was ejected from the match, but then awarded a yellow card instead. She was allowed to re-enter the match.

84' – Zoe Barrie knocked in a loose ball inside the 6-yd. box to give Arizona a 1-0 lead.

Arizona is back in action on Saturday, March 25th in Tucson, Ariz. to take on UTEP at 4:00 p.m. MST.
