TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona women's soccer team defeated Oregon State on Friday evening in Corvallis, Ore. by a score of 2-0. Gabi Stoian opened the scoring for the Wildcats after a shot from Jill Aguilera bounced off the keeper and Stoian put it away. Kieneker followed up with the second goal of the match off a cross from Cali Crisler and put the Beavers away early in the first half.
After an injury earlier in the season, Stoian looked like she had returned to her earlier form with six shots-on-goal and a goal. Head coach Tony Amato had predicted a strong performance from his striker in an interview earlier this week.
Crisler was also back in her normal stride, earning her sixth assist of the season on Kieneker's goal. Another one of Crisler's excellent crosses found Kieneker's head in the box, powering the ball into the top shelf.
Lainey Burdett was not asked to do much during the 90 minutes, making two saves. The defense did an excellent job of blocking shots and locking down the Beavers attack.
Arizona's offense was clicking as the team fired a total of 22 shots in the match, 11 of those on frame. The Wildcats took six corners compared to their opponent's four, a smaller margin than the Cats are used to this season.
This moves the Wildcats record to 6-4-3 (3-2-1 Pac-12) and will maintain their position in the top half of the Pac-12 standings.
Arizona is back in action on Thursday, Oct. 19 in Salt Lake City, Utah, when the Wildcats will take on Utah at 7 p.m. MST.
