PULLMAN, Wash. – The University of Arizona women's soccer team scored two goals in the first half to beat the Washington State Cougars by the score of 2-0 in Pullman, Wash.
Paige Crouch and
Gabi Stoian each scored a goal for the Wildcats while Stoian picked up an assist as well.
Lainey Burdett was also one save shy of her career-high as she stopped eight for the Wildcats tonight.
"We responded well after going on a four game losing streak," head coach
Tony Amato said. "We focused in on the task at hand tonight and didn't worry about anything else. It was a total team effort and I'm very happy with the win."
Key Plays
11' - Free kick for Arizona in a dangerous position just outside the box on the right side of the field. Stoian took it and found the head of Crouch, who put it in the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season. That was also Stoian's fifth assist of the season.
17' - Stoian makes some nifty moves and scores her third goal of the year to make the score 2-0 Arizona.
Play-by-play
7' - Cats earn a corner after Stoian's shot was saved by Ella Dederick. Nothing came of it though.

Lexe Selman-Richards fires a shot, but it goes wide of the goal.

21'- Selman-Richards is able to make a few moves at the top of the box to get free. Her shot goes wide though.
26' - Foul on the Cougars and Stoian and
Cali Crisler will stand over the ball for a free kick. Meagan O'Neil was shown a yellow card. Stoian rips a shot, but the wall does its job and blocks the shot. She then takes a follow up shot, but it goes wide.
30' - Washington State had a free kick from about 20 yards out, but the wall is able to block it and the ball was cleared.
34' – Arizona had a great chance to go up three, but the offsides flag stopped all of that.
37' - Corner kick for Washington State is headed away by
Hannah Stevens. She then blocks the ensuing shot.
45' - A nice ball just outside of the six finds the foot of Kaitlyn Johnson, but her shot goes just over the crossbar.
48' - O'Neil's shot forces Burdett to dive, but the shot goes wide to the left.
54' - A Washington State corner kick causes some problems for Arizona, but Burdett is able to punch it out for another corner kick. The next one results in a shot from outside the box by O'Neil, but it goes over the crossbar.
62' - Corner kick for the Wildcats, but O'Neil is able to clear Stoian's effort.
64' - Another corner kick for Arizona. This one finds the head of Stevens, but it was blocked by the Cougars.
65' - Burdett makes her fourth save of the night after a shot by Maddy Haro.
68' - Washington State attempts a low cross that looked like it would end up being a goal, but Burdett was there to knock it away and the Cats cleared it.
69' – Burdett made another excellent save after a shot by Johnson. It was heading for the top right corner of the goal, but Burdett was able to get a hand on it.
80' - Selman-Richards fires a shot on target, but Dederick is there to make the save. After the ensuing corner kick,
Charlotte Brascia was able to get a shot off, but Dederick saved it once again.
82' – Burdett made a save on a shot by Alysha Overland after she found some space inside the box on the right side.
The Cats are back in action on Sunday afternoon as they take on the Washington Huskies at 1 p.m. MST on the Pac-12 Networks.
