Ryan Windisch was hired as an assistant coach in April 2023 by head coach Charita Stubbs. He joined Arizona’s staff after spending five years at Irvine Valley College coaching the Women’s Volleyball, Women’s Beach Volleyball, and Men’s Volleyball teams.
In the 2025 season, Windisch helped Arizona reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018 and finish the season with a 17-13 (10-8 Big 12) record. He coached the defensive specialists and setters in his third season on staff. Arizona’s defense totaled 1,632 digs and averaged 14.57 digs/set to rank fifth in the Big 12. With the guidance of Windisch, Arizona’s libero Brenna Ginder recorded 384 digs and average 3.43 digs/set during her sophomore season. Windisch also helped setter Avery Scoggins tally 1,190 assists and 10.63 assists/set which ranked second in the Big 12.
Windisch helped Arizona finish the 2024 season as the NIVC Champions with a 24-9 (9-9 Big 12) record in his second season on staff. He helped the Wildcats record 1,849 digs which ranks 10th in program history for digs in a single season. Under his guidance, the Arizona defense averaged 15.28 digs/set and five Wildcats recorded 250 or more digs during the season. Windisch coached Carlie Cisneros to a team-leading 382 total digs which set the Arizona freshman digs record.
In his first season at Arizona, the Wildcats totaled more than 1,440 digs and averaged 12.57 digs/set with Windisch as the defensive specialist coach. Three Wildcats – Ana Heath, Jaelyn Hodge, and Sofia Maldonado Diaz – each totaled more than 230 digs during the season. Both Heath and Maldonado Diaz led the team with 2.26 digs/set with guidance from Windisch.
During his time at Irvine Valley, Windisch led the women’s and men’s volleyball teams to conference championships and state championship matches. Most recently, he coached the women’s volleyball team to the 2022 Orange Empire Conference championship and was named the 2022 Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year. He also led the men’s volleyball team to a third-place finish at the State level in 2022.
In 2021, Windisch coached the men’s volleyball team to the Orange Empire Conference championship and earned the Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year award.
Windisch led both the women’s and men’s volleyball teams to State CCCAA runner-up finishes in 2019. In his first year at Irvine Valley, he coached the women’s volleyball squad to the 2017 California Community College State Championship.
Prior to joining Irvine Valley’s volleyball programs, Windisch was the head coach at Balboa Bay Volleyball Club and the men’s volleyball head coach at Golden West College. He is also the USA Women’s National Team Volunteer Practice Coach.
Windisch graduated from Long Beach State in 2015, where he was the starting libero on the men’s volleyball team.
