A highly respected coach nationally in college golf with elite recruiting experience, Giovana Maymon was named University of Arizona's Women's Golf Head Coach, Vice President and Director of Athletics Desireé Reed-Francois announced Monday.
Maymon, who propelled Baylor University to a NCAA Championship Runner-Up finish as a student-athlete, has spent the last three seasons as assistant coach at Texas A&M. She helped the Aggies reach match play at the NCAA Championships in all three of the seasons she was staff, including Texas A&M's Adela Cernousek's run to an individual national championship last month.
"We had the privilege of speaking with an impressive group of candidates during this search process, but it became clear that Giovana embodies everything we sought in our next women's golf head coach," Reed-Francois said. "She is an outstanding leader, a relentless recruiter and a proven winner as a coach and student-athlete. During her time in College Station, Giovana helped guide the program to NCAA postseason success as well as an individual national championship. A driven and student-athlete focused leader, Giovana has a vision to continue Arizona Women's Golf's storied legacy of excellence on the course, in the classroom and in the community."
Texas A&M produced a pair WGCA All-Americans and two All-America Honorable Mention selections in Maymon's three seasons on staff in addition to eight All-SEC performers, two Arnold Palmer Cup selections and five WGCA Scholar All-Americans. The Aggies also sent five golfers to the prestigious Augusta National Women's Amateur over the last three years.

To become head coach of her college program, with its rich history and tradition of success, is a dream come true! I would not be here without the love and support of my parents and family and for the opportunities they have given me in life. With the world-class William M. "Bill" Clements Golf Center to call home, I can't wait to get to Tucson and begin this exciting journey."
The Aggies' success on the recruiting trail with Maymon on staff included signing the No. 2 ranked golfer in the 2024 recruiting class a year after successfully recruiting the second ranked amateur player in the world in Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio. Texas A&M also signed the top golfer in the state of Texas in 2022 and the state's third-ranked recruit in 2023.
Maymon began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at South Alabama for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, during which South Alabama golfer Julie Hovland was named the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Women's Golfer of the Year as the program posted nine top-five finishes during those two years.
A native of Mexico City, Maymon (pronounced 'GEE-oh-vah-nuh MAY-men') was a four-year standout for the Baylor Bears from 2014 to 2018 where she was a three-time WGCA Scholar All-American and four-time member of the Baylor Dean's List. She was a key contributor to the Lady Bears' runner-up finish at the 2015 NCAA Championships, winning two of her matches in the quarterfinals and finals.
