James Ewing

Jame Ewing begins his first season as an assistant coach on the Arizona Women’s Basketball staff after being named to Head Coach Becky Burke’s inaugural staff on April 16, 2025. Ewing has worked alongside Burke since 2023, playing a key role in building success at the University at Buffalo.

During the 2024-25 season, Ewing helped guide Buffalo to a program-record 30 wins and a WNIT Championship. In his first season with the Bulls (2023-24), the team posted 19 wins, reached the MAC Championship game, and earned a WNIT berth. Under his direction, the Bulls’ post players thrived — including standout Alexis Davis, who led the team in rebounding and anchored UB’s frontcourt.

Ewing joined Buffalo following a season at St. Bonaventure (2022-23), where he served as assistant coach and director of basketball operations. Prior to that, he held an assistant coaching role at Daemen College in 2021-22, where he worked with the post players and helped develop Katie Titus into a conference Player of the Year and First Team All-American. He also led the program’s recruiting efforts. In 2020-21, he was an assistant coach at Bryant & Stratton College, helping the Bobcats to a runner-up finish in the USCAA.

A former Division I student-athlete, Ewing played two seasons at Toledo (2011–13), helping the Rockets to a MAC West Division title, before finishing his career at Mercyhurst (2013–15). As a senior, he was the team’s leading rebounder and a key part of Mercyhurst’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business and hospitality from Mercyhurst in 2015.

Following college, Ewing played professionally with the Buffalo 716ers in the Premier Basketball League, averaging a double-double in 2015. He then spent three seasons in Belize’s National Elite Basketball League, earning three All-Star selections and averaging over 16 points per game during his time with the Dangriga Warriors and Orange Walk Running Rebels.

A native of Buffalo, New York, Ewing was a standout at Cardinal O’Hara High School, where he was a three-time First Team All-Catholic selection and a First Team All-State honoree. He scored more than 1,400 points during his prep career and went on to play a postgraduate year at IMG Academy.
