Jordan Gobatie

Jordan Gobatie joined the Arizona Men’s Tennis staff as an Assistant Coach in August 2024, following a successful season with the Wildcat Women’s Tennis program in 2023–24.

In his first season with the Arizona Men’s program, Gobatie helped guide the Wildcats to one of the most accomplished campaigns in school history. Arizona posted a 26–5 overall record, captured the Big 12 Tournament Championship in its inaugural season in the league, and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16. The Wildcats went undefeated in the Southwest region and recorded marquee wins throughout the season. Senior Colton Smith completed an undefeated dual match season and reached a No. 3 national ranking, while Jay Friend closed the year at No. 9 and was named an ITA Academic All-American. The Smith-Friend duo also earned All-America honors in singles, and Smith’s professional trajectory continued with a title at the Cleveland Challenger and main draw wins at ATP events in Indian Wells and Houston.

Before joining the men’s staff, Gobatie served as an assistant coach for the Arizona Women’s Tennis team during the 2023–24 season, leading the program to its first NCAA Championships berth since 2014. The Wildcats compiled a 17-win season, including four conference victories and a first-round win over Oregon at the Pac-12 Championships. Three student-athletes earned postseason conference honors, highlighted by Reece Carter’s selection to the All-Pac-12 First Team.

Prior to returning to Arizona, Gobatie was an assistant coach at Boise State, where he helped the Broncos reach the Mountain West Conference semifinals for the first time in program history. Multiple players earned All-Mountain West recognition in both singles and doubles under his guidance.

From 2020 to 2022, Gobatie served as a volunteer assistant coach with Arizona State. In 2022, the Sun Devils reached their first-ever Pac-12 Championship Final and finished the season ranked No. 17 nationally. During his time in Tempe, the program qualified for back-to-back NCAA Tournaments and produced individual qualifiers in both singles and doubles competition.

Gobatie also served as the assistant coach at Northern Arizona from 2018–2020, where he helped lead the Lumberjacks to a 2019 Big Sky regular season title and their first Big Sky Tournament championship since 1999. That team advanced to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history. Under his coaching, Chiara Tomasetti earned Big Sky MVP honors and reached a program-best No. 44 singles ranking.
He began his coaching career at Cypress College (2016–2018), where he was promoted to head coach in 2017. In his lone season at the helm, Cypress finished 8–2 in conference play, ranked No. 2 in the California JUCO rankings, and saw all six sophomores transfer to four-year programs.

As a player, Gobatie competed for Riverside Community College before transferring to Northern Arizona, where he played No. 1 singles and doubles and earned All-Big Sky First Team honors. He helped lead NAU to multiple ranked wins during the 2014–15 season.

Gobatie earned both his Master’s in Education and Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Northern Arizona University, along with a Minor in Business.
