PRIOR TO ARIZONA
  • Played four years at Oakland University near his hometown of Oxford, Mich.
  • 2024 Horizon League Player of the Year
  • MVP of the 2024 Horizon League Tournament, scoring 38 points in the championship game
  • Helped the Grizzlies to an upset win over Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament, finishing with 17 points and 12 rebounds
  • In an overtime loss to eventual Final Four participant NC State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, he scored 30 points and added 13 rebounds while playing all 45 minutes
  • Won the 2024 Lou Henson Award as the top player in mid-major college basketball
  • Started all 129 games during his career at Oakland, averaging 14.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists
  • Shot 50% from the floor and 73% at the free throw line for his OU career
  • Increased his 3-point field goal percentage from 24% over his first two seasons to 38% over the next two seasons
  • In the Oakland record book, he ranks second in career starts, fourth in minutes, sixth in rebounds, steals and blocks, eighth in points and field goals made, tenth in free throw attempts.
  • His 21 career double-doubles are also tied for sixth in Oakland history

  • Townsend played high school basketball at Oxford High School, where he was honorable mention all-state as a junior and senior
  • He broke the Oxford single-season scoring record with 456 points as a senior and finished second on the school's career points list
  • The dual sport athlete garnered all-state honors in the high jump and set a school record in the event.
  • His mother, Nicole, and father, Skip, both played basketball at Oakland, with his dad helping the Grizzlies to the first 20-win season in program history in 1987.
  • He has four siblings – Zach, Rachel, Jesse and Lauren. Zach is committed to play for Oakland's men's soccer team starting in the Fall of 2024.
