Susan Slaughter HOF
At a school with a tremendous history in the sport of golf, the one to claim the program’s first national title – on the men’s or women’s side – is Susan Slaughter. After finishing second at the 1989 championships as a freshman, Susan found herself in the heat of the race the next season as well. This time she faced the pressure of a sudden-death playoff and came out on top by sinking a two-foot birdie putt to capture the title after going into the final round one stroke out of first place. Susan saved her best for last in winning the 1990 NCAA Championship at the Arthur Hills Course on Hilton Head Island, S.C. Her second-place finish the year before had been the highest finish by an Arizona women’s golfer, and she was named an All-American in both the 1989 and 1990 seasons.
