A key component in Arizona's success, Women's Basketball player Shawntinice Polk began her career by being named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 2002. She went on to be All-Pac 10 in each of her three seasons as a Wildcat and received All-American nods in 2003. The seven time Pac-10 Player of the Week and WBCA Player of the Month, Shawntinice was one of the most decorated players in Arizona Women's basketball history. Shawntinice remains Arizona's career leader in double-doubles for a season (21) and blocked shots in a career (222). She also ranked in the Top 5 in five other career statistical categories including total rebounds, field goal percentage, field goals made, scoring average and points scored. During her career, Shawntinice had 79 double digit scoring performances and 21 games where she scored 20 or more points. During the win against Washington that gave Arizona its first ever Pac-10 regular season title, Shawntinice became the first Wildcat sophomore to break the 1,000 point mark. She ranks fifth on Arizona's All-Time chart for points scored with 1,467 points in total. Prior to her sudden passing in September of her senior year, Shawntinice was nominated for both the Wade Trophy and Wooden Award. Shawntinice Polk would have likely been Arizona's first four time All-Pac 10 player and was a projected first round draft pick in the WNBA.
