BOISE, Idaho – The Wildcats improved to 5-0 with a reverse sweep victory (21-25, 22-25, 25-13, 25-19, 21-19) over Boise State on Friday afternoon at the Boise State Classic.
Arizona had three players with double-digit kills and two players recorded double-doubles in the win.
Jordan Wilson led the offense with 22 kills while
Ana Heath set a career high of 19 kills and
Carlie Cisneros had 13 kills and 19 digs.
Avery Scoggins tied her career high of 61assists and also tallied 18 digs.
The Wildcats' defense had 12.0 blocks and was led by
Adrianna Bridges with seven blocks and Heath with six blocks.
The Broncos took the first set, 25-21. Boise State out-hit Arizona .300-.143 and had five blocks to beat the Cats in the opening set. The Broncos held the lead for most of the set and used late runs to create separation from the Cats. Cisneros had five kills and Bridges added four kills but Boise State's block held the offense at bay.
Boise State won the second set, 25-22, to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Wildcats recorded a higher hitting percentage than the Broncos in the second set but Boise State served three aces to help win the set. Arizona's attack was balanced with Wilson recording four kills, Bridges tallying three kills, and three other Cats recording two kills each.
Arizona dominated the third set, 25-13, to make it a 2-1 match. The Cats hit .324 and had four blocks to hold the Broncos to a .000 hitting percentage. Arizona took an early 8-1 lead and never let Boise State within striking distance. Heath and
Sydnie Vanek notched four kills each for the Cats while Cisneros added three kills. Defensively, Heath was part of three blocks while Bridges and Vanek had two blocks each.
The Cats won the fourth set, 25-19, to force a fifth set. Arizona used three blocks and a .244 hitting percentage to overcome Boise State in the fourth set. Wilson led the way offensively with 10 kills and a .412 clip for Arizona. Bridges recorded three blocks and Heath had two blocks to hold the Broncos to a .189 hitting percentage.
Arizona secured the reverse sweep with a 21-19 win in the fifth set. In a back-and-forth final set with 11 tie scores, the Wildcats were led by Heath's eight kills and .727 hitting percentage to secure the match victory. Wilson added five kills and the defense had three blocks to limit the Boise State attack to a .184 hitting percentage.
The Cats will take on UC San Diego to close out the Boise State Classic on Saturday, September 6 at 9 a.m. MST.
