LAWRENCE, Kan. – The No. 13 Wildcats (36-7, 13-5 Big 12) run-ruled Kansas in the final game of the series, 11-1 in five innings, to sweep the series.
Arizona plated 11 runs on 12 hits while
Regan Shockey and
Devyn Netz both hit home runs. Netz led the team with three RBI while
Sydney Stewart and
Paige Dimler both drove in two runs.
The Cats struck early with five runs in the first inning. The first four runs scored on a two-RBI single from Stewart and a two-run double from Dimler.
Jenna Sniffen drove in the fifth run of the innings with an RBI single to close out the inning.
Arizona struck again in the second when
Regan Shockey beat the Jayhawks' defensive shift and hit an inside the park home run – her first career homer – to give the Cats a 6-0 lead. Kansas hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second to make it a 6-1 game.
In the fourth inning, the Cats plated four to take a 10-1 lead.
Dakota Kennedy drove in the first run with an RBI single to right field.
Devyn Netz then homered to drive in three more runs and record her 14th home run of the season.
Arizona added one more run in the fifth on an RBI single from Kennedy to extend the Cats' lead to 11-1.
In the circle, Netz picked up the win to improve to 16-4. She went 3.0 innings and allowed just one run on two hits.
Saya Swain relived Netz in the fourth and struck out three of the six batters she faced.
