Arizona’s Offense Explodes in Run-Rule Victory over UCF

TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 7 Arizona run-ruled UCF in the final game of the series, 10-1, in five innings on Sunday morning. The Cats improved to 22-4 and picked up their first Big 12 win.

The Cats scored 10 runs on seven hits and Dakota Kennedy homered in the win. Jenna Sniffen led Arizona, going 2-for-3 at the plate and driving in a career high four runs.

Ryan Maddox earned the win in the circle, pitching all five innings and allowing just one run on four hits. She struck out two Knights to improve to 3-0.

Arizona came out strong, plating four runs in the first inning to take an early lead. Kennedy led off the inning with a solo homer while Sniffen singled to drive in two runs and a fielding error by UCF allowed the fourth run of the inning to score.

The Cats exploded for six runs in the second inning to take a demanding 10-0 lead. The first two runs came across on back-to-back RBI hit-by-pitches drawn by Devyn Netz and Sydney Stewart. Miranda Stoddard drove in a run with an RBI fielder's choice and Sniffen added to Arizona's lead with a two-run double. Tayler Biehl drove in Arizona's sixth run of the inning on an RBI single.

In the top of the third, UCF hit a two-out solo home run, but Maddox retired the next batter to hold the Knights to just one run. Maddox allowed just one baserunner in the final two innings to secure the win for Arizona.
