WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Arizona Gymnastics placed second at their very first Big 12 Championship with a 196.675 in session 2. Utah was crowned Big 12 Champions with a 197.775, Denver earned third with a 196.400, and Arizona State got 5th with a 195.975 behind BYU.
Arizona scored a 196.675 which is the highest score the Wildcats have earned in a conference championship since 2004, where the Wildcats scored a 196.775. In addition, this is the highest finish for the Wildcats at a conference championship since 2005.
Balance Beam
As the third seed, Arizona started off the meet on beam where they scored a 49.175. Freshman
Amelia Rock secured a 9.825.
Emily Mueller followed with a 9.800.
Elena Deets added a 9.850.
Abigayle Martin anchored the rotation with a career high performance of 9.925.
Floor Exercise
The GymCats moved to floor for the second rotation of the evening where they earned a 49.125.
Elizabeth LaRusso was the lead-off for the Cats and put up a 9.850.
Alysen Fears landed a 9.875, the highest score for Arizona on floor. Three GymCats earned 9.80s –
Sophie Derr, Martin, and Mueller.
Vault
In rotation three, Arizona secured a 49.100 on vault. LaRusso continued her strong lead-off streak with a 9.850.
Emma Strom and Fears added 9.825s.
Jessa Janicke landed a 9.850 in her freshman debut.
Uneven Bars
The Cats finished the final rotation of the night on bars with a 49.275. Mueller kicked off the fourth rotation with a strong 9.800.
Aubrey Krohnfeldt kept the momentum with a 9.850. The GymCats closed out the Big 12 Championships with three 9.875s by Martin, Deets, and Fears.
