TUCSON, Ariz. — Arizona women's basketball secured a 65-57 home victory against the BYU Cougars on Wednesday, Feb. 19 in McKale Center.
The Wildcats demonstrated a balance offensive approach throughout the game, with
Breya Cunningham,
Isis Beh,
Jada Williams and
Skylar Jones each scoring in the double digits to secure the Arizona win. Beh led the team in scoring, picking up 14 points in addition to four rebounds, one assist and three steals. Cunningham followed closely behind, finishing with 11 points, also grabbed eight rebounds, two steals and four blocks for the Wildcats.Â
The Cats shot 21-53 (39.6%) from the field and 6-16 (37.5%) from beyond the arc. 13 of Arizona's points came from the bench.Â
Arizona also overpowered the Cougars defensively, with 23 points off of BYU's 21 turnovers, limiting BYU to 39% shooting. The Cats also grabbed 14 steals compared to BYU's 11 and 27 defensive boards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Arizona started off hot, outscoring the Cougars 16-7 in the first quarter. The Cats continued this dominance into the second quarter, shooting 69.2% from the field and 66.7% from beyond the arc, entering the half with a dominant 37-21 lead.Â
The Cougars came out of the half strong, putting up 15 points to Arizona's 6 in the third quarter. Despite the offensives threat from BYU in the second half, Arizona was able to hold onto the lead, and pulled away in the final minutes of the fourth quarter to secure the win.
