Cats Take Down Ohio on Day Three of Bear Down Fiesta

TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 15 Arizona beat Ohio, 12-8, on Saturday at the Bear Down Fiesta to improve to 9-1 on the season.

Three Wildcats – Kaiah Altmeyer, Miranda Stoddard, and Emily Schepp – homered in the win to push the Wildcats past the Bobcats.

Arizona scored one run in the first inning on an RBI groundout from Paige Dimler before Ohio answered back with five runs in the top of the second. The Bobcats capitalized on a fielding error to score their first run of the inning and drove in the other four runs on a pair of singles and an RBI groundout.

The Cats plated one run in the bottom of the second on an RBI groundout from Regan Shockey. In the third, Stoddard hit her sixth home run of the Bear Down Fiesta to score the third run of the game for Arizona.

Ohio extended their lead to 7-3 in the fourth on a solo home run and a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the fourth, Arizona plated eight runs to take an 11-7 lead. Altmeyer started the offensive explosion with a two-run home run – her first of the season. With the bases loaded, Emma Kavanagh hit a two-RBI double and Jenna Sniffen followed with a two-run single to put the Cats in the lead. Schepp blasted a pinch-hit two-run home run to give Arizona the four-run lead.

The Wildcats added one more run in the sixth on an RBI groundout from Kaiah Altmeyer. In the top of the seventh, Ohio scored one more run on an RBI double.
