OCEANSIDE, Calif. – Arizona
Gymnastics earned a 194.925 to place first in their season opener against Rutgers, Southern Utah, and Wilberforce. The Knights placed just behind the Cats with a 194.850, followed by Southern Utah in third with a 194.750, and Wilberforce placed fourth scoring a 180.275.
Arizona came out on top in a back-and-forth meet.
Abigayle Martin tied her career high on beam with a 9.9.
Aubrey Krohnfeldt and
Gianna Lenczner competed for their first time as GymCats.
Floor Exercise
The Cats earned a 48.725 to kick off the meet. Three GymCats – Martin,
Emily Mueller, and
Emma Strom – all posted 9.775s to complete the first rotation of the night.
Vault
The GymCats posted a 48.450 on vault for the second rotation. Strom scored a strong 9.800 to lead the Cats on vault. Following Strom,
Alysen Fears earned a 9.700. The GymCats finished rotation two in third place.
Uneven Bars
Arizona scored a 49.075 on rotation three. Krohnfeldt delivered a 9.850 in her collegiate debut.
Sophie Derr paced the Cats with a 9.800 and Fears finished out the rotation with the first 9.900 of the night for Arizona. Moving into the final rotation of the meet, the GymCats moved up and tied for second.
Balance Beam
The Cats closed the meet with a 48.675 for the win. Lenczner posted a 9.850 in her collegiate debut. Martin scored Arizona's second 9.900 of the meet and
Elena Deets followed with a 9.875 to finalize the first win of the season.
