SALT LAKE CITY - The Arizona women's basketball team mounted a comeback but ultimately fell short to Utah, 67-58, on Friday night at the Huntsman Center. Despite the loss, sophomore
Jada Williams delivered a career-high performance, leading the Wildcats with 25 points, seven rebounds, five steals, and three assists.
Arizona saw two more in double-figure scoring, with Isis Beh and Skylar Jones with 11 points apiece. Beh also tallied three steals and three assists, while Jones added three steals.
The Wildcats were locked in a tight battle early, finishing the first quarter tied at 13. However, Utah surged ahead with a dominant second quarter, outscoring Arizona 21-11 to take a 34-24 lead into halftime. The Utes extended their advantage to 18 points in the third quarter before the Wildcats stormed back, regaining the lead with under seven minutes to play in the fourth.
Ultimately, turnovers and fouls proved costly for Arizona. Utah capitalized at the free-throw line, shooting 78.6% in the fourth quarter to reclaim control. The Wildcats forced 22 Utah turnovers, converting them into 20 points, but were unable to overcome their own miscues in the final minutes.
