TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Gymnastics won their Big 12 home opener against Denver, posting a season high team score of 196.775. The Denver Pioneers scored a 194.600.
Arizona earned season high team scores on bars of 49.425 and beam of 49.30.
Alysen Fears secured gymnast of the meet after winning the all around award and scoring a season high of 39.450.
Vault
The Cats started on vault for the first rotation and put up a 48.725.
Sophie Derr scored a 9.775 and Fears added a 9.80, leading the Cats through the first rotation.
Uneven Bars
The GymCats scored a season high of 49.425, tied for the third highest bar score in program history.
Emily Mueller and
Aubrey Krohnfeldt posted 9.825s.
Abigayle Martin and Derr added 9.875s. Senior Fears and fifth year senior
Elena Deets both earned 9.925s, a season high for Fears and a career high for Deets. The Cats trailed just behind the Pioneers after rotation two with a 98.250.
Balance Beam
Arizona put up another season high on beam of 49.30. Two gymnasts scored 9.825s – Fears and Gianna Lenczer.
Tirzah Wise earned a 9.850 to add to the momentum.
Elena Deets added another 9.925 for the night, a season high on beam. Martin closed out the rotation with a strong 9.875, putting Arizona in the lead.
Floor Exercise
Moving into the last rotation of the night, the Cats scored a 49.325.
Elizabeth LaRusso was the leadoff and earned a 9.825 to set the tone for the rotation. Fears followed with a 9.90. Krohnfeldt and Martin scored back-to-back 9.850s.
Emma Strom put up another 9.90 and Mueller secured the win with a 9.800.
