BERKELEY, Calif. – The No. 21 Wildcats lost in the third game of the series to the No. 19 Golden Bears on Sunday. Arizona attempted a late comeback but fell 7-8 to Cal.

Arizona scored seven runs on 12 hits and four Wildcats had two hits each. Allie Skaggs and Tayler Biehl both homered for the second game in a row.

Skaggs hit a first-inning home run to bring in three runs for the Wildcats. In the bottom of the first, Cal tied the game with a solo home run and a two-RBI single.

After a pair of scoreless innings for both teams, Biehl led off the fourth with a solo home run to break the tie and give Arizona a 4-3 lead. The Golden Bears answered with a leadoff solo home run of their own to tie the game and took the lead on an RBI single in the bottom of the inning. Cal scored one more on a wild pitch for a two-run lead heading into the fifth.

Cal added two more to their lead with a two-run home run in the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, the Wildcats scored three runs to bring the game within one but couldn't complete the comeback. Emily Schepp singled to bring in one run and Carlie Scupin drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in another. Blaise Biringer drove in the third run on a groundout but Cal retired the next two batters to end the game.

Brooke Mannon (4-1) picked up the loss – her first of the season – after pitching 1.2 innings in relief for Aissa Silva. Mannon allowed three runs on three hits and struck out two Golden Bears. Silva started in the circle, going two innings before Mannon relieved her in the third and then reentered in the sixth. In total, Silva allowed three runs on five hits, striking out four.
