TUCSON, Ariz. – The Wildcats won the final game of the series against the Huskies, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon.
Olivia DiNardo hit the game-winning home run in the sixth inning and Arizona's defense held Washington to just three hits and did not allow a run.
It was a pitcher's duel with both teams holding each other scoreless through the first five innings of the game. Both teams were able to get runners on base, but the defense didn't allow runs to score.
In the bottom of the sixth, DiNardo homered – her sixth of the season – to bring in Arizona's pair of runs that would be the difference-maker in the game.
Aissa Silva and
Miranda Stoddard each pitched to two Huskies in the seventh and kept Washington scoreless after Silva allowed a walk to secure the upset for the Wildcats.
Silva earned the win to improve to 12-3 and Stoddard picked up her third save of the season. Stoddard started in the circle, going 4.0 innings before Silva relieved her in the fifth. Silva pitched 2.1 hitless and scoreless innings before Stoddard reentered to face the final two batters. Overall, Stoddard struck out two batters but allowed three hits in 4.2 total innings.
