TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona fell in four sets on Thursday night to No. 13 Arizona State (23-25, 25-15, 19-25, 15-25) in McKale Center.
Jaelyn Hodge and
Jordan Wilson each recorded double-digit kills and Arizona had nine blocks, but it wasn't enough for the Cats. Hodge led the offense with 17 kills and Wilson followed with 15 kills, 14 digs, and four blocks.
Arizona lost the first set, 23-25. The Wildcats out-blocked the Sun Devils 2.0-0.0 but Arizona only hit .146 in the set. Wilson led Arizona with four kills and
Kiari Robey had three kills. Hodge had two blocks – one solo and one assisted. After Arizona State jumped out to a 16-8 lead, the Cats used multiple runs to close the gap but couldn't complete the comeback in the opening set.
The Wildcats tied the match with a 25-15 win in the second set. Arizona's offense hit .385 and held ASU to a .132 hitting percentage. Hodge tallied six kills and Wilson had five kills to lead Arizona. After a back-and-forth start to the set, the Cats used a 6-0 run to gain the lead and even the match.
Arizona State won the third set, 19-25. Both teams hit under .240 but Arizona had three service errors to give ASU the edge.
Carlie Cisneros led the attack with five kills while Hodge and Wilson had four kills each. Robey had two block solos – Arizona's only blocks of the set – but the Sun Devils held the Cats to a .143 clip.
Arizona fell in the fourth set, 15-25, to lose the match. The Cats' offense hit -.062 while the Sun Devils had a .417 hitting percentage and six blocks. Hodge recorded five kills while Wilson had two kills and two blocks.
The Wildcats head to Utah and BYU next week to continue Big 12. Arizona will take on Utah on Thursday, October 31.
