Wildcats Get First Win of 2023 at NAU

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The Arizona soccer team recorded its first win of its 2023 campaign on Sunday, defeating NAU in a 2-1 decision. The win marked Arizona's sixth in a row over the Lumberjacks.

A goal in the 13th minute was Nicole Dallin's third in as many matches. The senior poked the ball away from Northern Arizona and evaded another defender on her way to towards the net. NAU's Trinity Corcoran was drawn of the net, and Dallin sent the ball past her to give the Cats a 1-0 lead.

In the 56th minute, Cameron Valladares scored her first career goal to put Arizona up 2-0 on the Lumberjacks. Gianna Christiansen served up a pass from beyond midfield, and Valladares outran the defender to put it past NAU's Natalie Manzo.

It took 11 minutes at the start of the match for either team to take a shot, and at halftime NAU held a 9-4 edge in shots.

Dallin was responsible for two of the Cats' first-half shots, and Marissa Arnst and Megan Chelf each took shots as well. In total, seven Wildcats took aim at the goal in the match.

NAU got on the board in the 67th minute with a goal by Haylee Phoenix, but that was the only shot of NAU's 15 that found the back of the net.

Arizona returns to action Thursday, Aug. 31 at 1 p.m. against Kent State in Tempe, Ariz.
