Wildcats Fall at Iowa State

AMES, Iowa - Arizona opened its 2023 season on Thursday at Iowa State, falling in a 2-1 decision.

Nicole Dallin wasted no time scoring her first goal of the season, capitalizing off a Cyclones defensive error that drew Iowa State keeper Avery Gillahan out of the goal in the 10th minute. The goal is the seventh of Dallin's career.

It didn't take the Cyclones long to respond with Mira Emma serving a ball to Salome Prat that Prat was able to sneak past Hisey to knot up the score at one goal apiece.

Neither team was able to get many shots off in the first half with Desiree Foster taking aim at the goal in the ninth minute and Prat taking all three of the Cyclones' first-half attempts.

Arizona dominated on the offensive side of the ball at the start of the second half, taking aim at the goal twice while keeping Iowa State from taking a shot for the first five minutes of the period.

A foul in the penalty area in the 59th minute set up a Cyclones penalty kick, but Emma was unable to get it past Hope Hisey.

Iowa State took a 2-1 lead in the 64th minute with a goal by Abigail Miller. Dallin, Nyota Katembo and Trinity Dorsey each took a shot after the Cyclones took the lead but were unable to find the back of the net.

Arizona returns to action Thursday, Aug. 24 at home against Grand Canyon at 7 p.m. MST. Tickets can be purchased at arizonawildcats.com/soccer.
