TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 16 Wildcats split the second day of the Hillenbrand Invitational. Arizona fell to Nebraska, 10-3, in the first game of the day and run-ruled Texas A&M-Commerce, 17-8 (5 inn.), in the second game.
Olivia DiNardo went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI on the day.
Carlie Scupin,
Allie Skaggs, and
Paige Dimler each had a home run against the Lions.
Game 1 | Nebraska 10, Arizona 3
Arizona lost to Nebraska, 10-3 to open the day.
Jasmine Perezchica had two hits in the game.
Nebraska struck first with a solo home run in the second, but the Cats scored three in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.
Tayler Biehl had a two-RBI double and Perezchica brought Biehl home on an RBI single down the right field line.
The Cornhuskers scored five in the third to regain the lead on three singles and a double. Nebraska scored four more to hold the lead the rest of the game.
Devyn Netz (6-5) was credited with the loss. She struck out three Huskers through 2.1 innings, but gave up five runs.
Game 2 | Arizona 17, Texas A&M-Commerce 8 (5 inn.)
The Wildcats run-ruled A&M-Commerce for the second time this weekend, 17-8. Three Wildcats homered in the win.
The Lions scored one in the first, but Arizona answered with 11 runs. A trio of two-RBI doubles and a pair of RBI singles highlighted the scoring in the first for the Cats.
In the top of the third, TAMUC hit a solo home run for their second run of the game. The Cats hit three home runs in the bottom of the inning for a 17-2 lead. Scupin hit a solo homer on top of the Ina Gittings building – her second career home run to land on top of Gittings. Following a DiNardo double, Skaggs hit a two-run home run.
Izzy Pacho doubled to bring in another run and Dimler hit a two-RBI inside-the-park home run.
The Lions scored six runs in the top of the fourth on two home runs and a sacrifice fly.
Ali Blanchard improved to 4-0 on the season, pitching the first 3.0 innings and striking out four Lions.
Sydney Somerndike and
Brianna Hardy pitched in relief for Blanchard, striking out one batter each.
